When someone says , “home improvement,” you probably think of replacing the cabinets in your kitchen, or the carpet in the bedrooms. However, very few people think about investing in improvements for their garage. In fact, the garage may be the most frequently overlooked room in the home, even though it functions as a home for your most expensive item, your car. Here are a few tips on how to easily update your garage so it functions to its top capacity at all times.
Get rid of the excess. Most of us have so much stuff in the garage that we can’t remember all of its contents. By eliminating the extra items, you will free up A LOT of space. Not to mention by getting rid of all the extra stuff cluttering your garage, you may be able to finally park your car in the garage again.
Create a frequently used section. This should consist of items that you use daily and they should be kept at eye level. It is important that all these items can quickly and easily be accessed. Try a shelving hook system to get everything up and off the ground. Hook shelving systems that allow for stacking are even better, as they provide double the store in a small amount of space. Bucket racks are another option for a frequently used section that are very popular and provide quick and easy access. However, be careful to only keep type of item in each of the buckets so they don’t get overfilled and junky.
Use ceiling space for long term storage. It’s important to get the items that you will have to store for a long time up, and out of the way. The easiest way to do this is with overhead storage. When looking for overhead storage, look for brands with a high weight capacity. This is ensure the safest storage available. Additionally, looking for overhead storage with multiple mountings to the ceiling. Multiple mountings decrease the chances of the overhead racks falling over time.
Have fun with color and texture. The garage doesn’t have to be an ugly, bland area of your home. You can have fun choosing between many different colors and styles of garage cabinets and flooring options. Some of the best fitting, but under-utilized flooring options for the garage include modular and epoxy flooring. Modular floorings offer grooves that allow water or chemicals to flow through and virtually eliminate the risks of slips and falls. Epoxy has slip resistant and water resistant qualities as well, which help to increase the safety level of the garage substantially.
